This is the day which the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it. – Psalm 118:24
To rejoice is to be glad, to feel happy about something. The first thing that comes to mind for me when I see this word is I should be ‘smiling’. I should begin to make myself feel happy about something.
There are times when life can be so heavy on us that it’s not easy to smile. Things can be so out of control that you can’t see the happy. You feel like some kind of funk or mood is sitting on you…following you through your day. But this is when you find this scripture (memorize it) and you begin to say it to yourself over and over. Sometimes you are going to have to MAKE yourself be happy, talk yourself into it. You begin to think of how good God has been to you, you begin to think of the blessings he has given you during the week, in the last month, over the years. You begin to think how God spared your life another day, how He keeps your family safe and provides for you. See, remember that the devil’s job is to steal, kill and destroy in all areas of your life! Remember that! So he will work on your mind to make you feel like all hope is gone, that there is nothing you can do about your situations. This is why you MUST REJOICE! Work yourself up to be happy, do what you must to fight off the depressing feelings, the sad feelings, the angry feelings, the irritated feelings, the hopeless feelings, the broke feelings, the un-loved feelings, the lonely feelings, the worthless feelings, the stuck feelings. Listen to uplifting music…not music that is going to put you in a deeper mood, but music that will remind you of your gracious God, your merciful God and His love and His power. (you need some music, let me know I will get you some)
READ YOUR BIBLE…the word of God will give you strength, will uplift you, will encourage you and direct you. The circumstances that you are fighting in this world are not carnal. They are physical fights. They are spiritual. You are in spiritual warfare. Which means you cannot fight them with your ability. You fight them with the power of God.
2 Corinthians 10: 3-5 says…3 We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. 4 We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 5 We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ
Ephesians 6:12 says…12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Have someone in your life that you can go to, who is of God, who you trust and who will give you good Godly advice when you need it. Sometimes we need help getting to that happy place. Sometimes we need someone who we know will give us solid advice to help us get thru this and follow God while doing it. The ONLY way that you can fight a spiritual battle is with God. Learn to identify when the enemy is coming at you and trying to break you down. Don’t sit down and let the mood take you over…fight your way through it. God gives you resources, church, people, His Word to help you fight the fight. Use them!
The enemy will try to take your joy, your happiness, and your smile. But do as the scripture says…REJOICE anyhow. Rejoice in your suffering, Rejoice in you trials, Rejoice in your loneliness, Rejoice in your sadness, Rejoice in your anger, Rejoice in your irritation, Rejoice in your brokenness, Rejoice in your stuck situations, Rejoice in your money situations. REJOICE! This is how you fight the enemy back.
I want you to know that if you trust God and you allow Him to lead your life, He will work all things out for the good for you. You have to know this and believe this! You will go through things in this life, but if you choose to stay connected to God and allow Him access to you lead your decisions, your choices, your movements and your behavior He will work it out for you. He will do a GOOD work in you. This gives us the opportunity to get closer to Him. Build on that relationship with Him. Trust Him more. Receive His love. Believe it or not…when you are going through your situation and choosing to hold on to God while you’re in it…watch Him build up the strength in you! And that spiritual strength will help you get through the next situation that comes.
Romans 5:3 says…3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.
I have been feeling this way for a while now and every day I have to remind myself to REJOICE. I’m sharing this because I know someone else maybe going through it. My bible tells me that we/Believers go through the same things. And we need to encourage each other. Do not be afraid to share your story, your doubts, your situations…the devil wants you to keep it in and hold on to it. Let it go! Let him go!
But what I do know is that my suffering will only last but a while. I trust God. It will end. I will get thru it. And in the meantime…I will rejoice and be glad in it.
