How could I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
(This is a line in a song, actually, I believe the theme song for the tv show that used to come on, Smallville) and when I heard it I began thinking…
How could I not honor you with my behavior, my language, my actions?
How could I not give you glory…give you the credit for what I have?
How could I not put you in your rightful place…as HEAD of my life, not mixed up in it here and there?
I often think of the heavens your hands have made, and of the moon and stars you put in place. Then I ask, “Why do you care about us humans? Why are you concerned for us weaklings?” You made us a little lower than you yourself, and you have crowned us with glory and honor. You let us rule everything your hands have made. And you put all of it under our power the sheep and the cattle, and every wild animal, the birds in the sky,
the fish in the sea, and all ocean creatures. Our Lord and Ruler, your name is wonderful everywhere on earth!
This commentary I was reading said that God created human beings as majestic (magnificent, royal) creatures. And we were to rule over all His creation (land, animals, the sea, fish, birds etc.) But in our fallen state (our sinful nature) we are profoundly disfigured, a perversion (perverted form) of the majesty God has intended.
But…Jesus restores those who put trust in Him. In Christ, we recover majesty, in Him. We become the people that God wants us to be. We are valuable because God Himself created us in His own image.
So this tells me that…God is awesome! His creation shows me that. There is evidence of His greatness. And yet He is concerned about little old me LOL. That’s an awesome feeling. That even though I was born into a sinful nature, and I sin and make bad choices and do things that are not pleasing to Him. There is redemption. That if I put my trust in Jesus…He will restore me. He will bring back my majesty, my magnificence, my royalty! God LOVES me and YOU. We are valuable to Him. Because in all His awesomeness…He created US to be like Him!
So, how could you stand here with Him and not be moved by Him?
How could you not honor Him with your behavior, your language, your actions?
How could you not give Him glory…give Him the credit for what you have?
How could you not put Him in His rightful place…as HEAD of your life, not mixed up in it here and there?
When Christ is head of your life…He leads you. He directs you. You follow Him and not the world.
Now that you’ve read those verses…go read a lil bit more and see what else He’s saying.
