Making change can seem overwhelming, unattainable, or even scary. We start thinking, ‘Oh gosh I got too much going on and there is no way I can live right, no way I can just stop doing this, no way I can put order to this mess!’ We always want to add ‘nobody’s perfect’ as an excuse as to why we can’t live right. Why do people even think they can be on God’s level? Why would you try to put yourself next to that word? Your right you can not be perfect…but God never asked you to be. Everything he has asked of us…is our reasonable service. That word ‘reasonable’ feels so much better. Takes a lot of weight off my shoulders, its not so heavy. God knows our struggles, he knows our weaknesses. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says ~ The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
I’ve heard before…”I’m stuck, I don’t’ know where to start” So, I want to give you a START.
In your quiet time, what is God saying to you? He speaks to us all. See, we are all made in His image so He is a part of all of us…and when He speaks to you…what does He say?
There is one thing of change that He has been showing you. Maybe more than one…but pick the one thing you KNOW he is telling you to change (be honest with yourself)…matter of fact, say it out loud so you can hear it. Anything that you are doing that is in direct opposition to God is sin. I know He has convicted you about it…because He loves you and you are His child. A parents job is to correct and discipline their child.
I have been stressing in my blog, on my Facebook page, Twitter etc….to be honest with yourself! Self-examination is so important to your growth. And we all should be striving for spiritual growth that leads to maturity.
So start with that.
Then confess it.
Tell God your sorry.
And turn away from it.
Easier said than done, right LOL. I know…but now that you’ve brought it to Him, you have invited Him into your situation so He can help you. You won’t have to struggle with this alone. He gives you His word for strength and to spiritually fight the battle and He gives you people to help you in your struggle, He gives you a place to go to be spiritually fed and learn more about how to have victory over these struggles and most of all He LOVES you.
You are going to mess up, make mistakes, fall back…he already knows this. But the important thing is to get up, dust yourself off and try to get it right again. I promise you…it will get easier. Proverbs 3:5-6 says that if you trust God with all your heart and not try to think of your own way to do things and seek His will in all you do…He will make your path straight. You’ll look back and see how crooked your walk has been…then look in front of you and see a straighter path because you CHOOSE God! That’s exciting to me!
Now replace that sin, that bad habit, that struggle…with something of God. That’s taking your change to the next level. Your not even gonna leave room, nor an empty space for the sin to come back. Fill yourself up with God so that your life can be pleasing to Him. You’ll be so full of God that the devil has no room in your life. More of Him and less of you.
I pray this can help you in some way. The devil makes you think you can’t move forward, but that’s a lie… You can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you!
God, help us to make good and right change in our lives. Help us to be honest with ourselves and see the sin for what it is…SIN and turn away from it. It our quiet time…let us not preoccupy ourselves but be still to hear you. Help us to know that we can not make this change on our own…that we in fact do need help and bring people into our lives who love you and honor you so they can help us get closer to you. Give us a heart to commit to you Lord, give us a desire to want positive change and give us the strength to walk away from the things in our life that do not honor you, God. We are expecting a transformation in 2014…we want more of you, God.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen
